Capacity of Thermochromic Pigments as a Means for Animated Sequences
This research funded by the Schwartz-Paddock Fellowship for the visual and performing arts uses thermochromic silkscreen inks–pigments which shift in hue when exposed to heat–as a means of exploring temporality in printed and animated processes. This seldom-utilized medium for the printing of images carries a unique capacity for examining this  intersection of mediums because of its ability to transform over time. A singular printed frame can be incorporated into animation in three unique ways: in its cooled, unaltered appearance; in its heated, transformed state; and by recording the process of its changing through a short video clip.
